Teaching and learning

T_and_LwebWe are committed to provide students with a rich and rewarding learning experience, an innovative and distinctive education of the highest quality.

Our staff are world leaders in Engineering Education and we base our educational experiences on sound pedagogical principles, in practical, fun and inspiring contexts. We emphasise on improving teaching quality with a number of initiatives, and building a Teaching and Learning culture where staff receive recognition and awards for excellence in teaching.

Recently we have appointed one of the very few Chairs of Engineering Education in the world, Professor Caroline Baillie, demonstrating our commitment to the development of creative and exciting learning experiences, which are known across the globe to be amongst the most effective.

Construction was recently completed on the Monadelphous Integrated Learning Centre (MILC). This student-run design centre is available to all students in the Faculty of Engineering and combines world-class teaching and practical training in a simulated professional working environment. The MILC aims to further strengthen interaction across the board; from academics to industry, to students in different years and disciplines of engineering study.

Also recently completed is the Clough Engineering Student Centre, which provides a base for students studying courses offered by the Faculty of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences.

In order to fulfill our promise to students we have basic organisational structures in place which assist in ensuring quality and rigour (Teaching and Learning basics) and we have recently introduced a unique program of Professional Development and reward which supports excellent teaching.

The Faculty Academy for the Scholarship of Education (FASE) facilitates our staff to keep up to date with the most effective and exciting educational approaches worldwide.
