Spelling

The UWA staff site provides easy access to information for new and current staff. Web style

Common words used on UWA websites:

International students
Not overseas students.
Exceptions include 'Education Services for Overseas Students' and 'Overseas Student Health Cover', both of which are proper names.

The University style draws on the Macquarie Dictionary which usually adopts British spelling.

Macquarie Dictionary

As a general rule, use the first spelling given in the Macquarie Dictionary.

adviser (not advisor)
chancellery (not chancellory)
enquiry (not inquiry unless used as a scientific or legal term)
program (not programme)

British spelling

The British rather than the American spelling is used.

honour (not honor)
colour (not color)
capitalise (not capitalize, use '-ise' instead of 'ize')

Spellings in book or thesis titles are not brought into house style but retain their published spelling.
