UWA Forward

Vice-Chancellor's Voice

Good morning. It was fantastic to see many of you at our ‘interactive’ Sustainable Futures Open Forum on service culture yesterday. The live phone polling really made for an engaging presentation.

A service culture is not just about our teaching and student-facing staff delivering outstanding education and support. It’s about all of us at UWA. It’s about listening to the people we’re helping, whether we’re helping students, internal staff or the wider community.

Embracing a service culture helps deliver our mission to provide world class education, research and community engagement, and is critical to securing our success. Next year, each University business unit will develop their own service charter and we’ll be running workshops for all staff.

Together, we’ll ensure a higher level of service for all of us. For more, visit the Sustainable Futures website or email serviceculture@uwa.edu.au.

Sincerely,
Professor Paul Johnson
Vice-Chancellor

Forward Focus

Meet Maddie, our new Student Guild President!

Maddie Mulholland cruised to victory in the Student Guild elections in September, winning with one of the largest margins in years. Next week, the law/finance student takes office as UWA’s 103rd Guild President. Maddie sat down with UWA Forward to discuss her student experience, her new job and the year ahead.

Maddie Mulholand
from next week our 103rd Student Guild President

You don’t run for Guild President without wanting the job, because it’s a big job. And it’s great to have that warm, fuzzy feeling that the students want it to be you.

– Maddie Mulholland

Maddie loves UWA and loves being a student here. “It’s the opportunities I’ve had here,” she said. “I started studying at UWA in 2010 and started in a very broad degree – physics, French and philosophy. I was able to figure out what I wanted to do, which ended up being law and finance.”
