UWA Forward

Vice-Chancellor's Voice

Good morning. This week is World Space Week. After NASA’s recent announcement of the discovery of flowing water on Mars, it’s a great time to reflect on some of the University’s successes expanding our knowledge of the ‘final frontier’.

Our team at ICRAR is playing a key role in building the world’s largest radio telescope, the SKA, in the State’s Mid West, and our students in Engineering, Computing and Mathematics have developed an electrolysis unit that can produce oxygen from ice in the Martian soil.

Closer to home, the planning and development of the 2016 University budget is in its final stages. As we look forward we know that the University faces a number of financial challenges. Over the coming weeks I’ll be outlining to staff our ongoing efforts to build a strong foundation for future growth and success.

Sincerely,
Professor Paul Johnson
Vice-Chancellor

Leading UWA’s IT Transformation

Information Technology – computers, networks, funny-looking cables, machines that go ‘ping’; what was once only found in dimly lit laboratories and enthusiasts’ garages is now commonplace in everything we do. For Assine George, the University’s Chief Information Officer, the opportunity to transform the way UWA provides IT services is both a challenging and engaging one.

A triple-shot of black coffee in the morning doesn't hurt either!

– Assine George

Assine joined UWA in September last year, and has since been instrumental in developing a strategy around how the IT landscape can be improved to better meet the needs of the University.
