UWA Forward

Vice-Chancellor's Voice

Good morning. Last week, the Executive, the Deans and I held our annual strategic retreat in York. The theme of the discussions over the two-and-a-half days was “sustainable futures”, and we re-committed to work together to tackle the many challenges UWA faces.

Amid a climate of uncertainty and change, the Senior Leadership Team particularly acknowledges the hard work of staff to respond to these challenges. This effort, which for most has included going above and beyond their normal duties, is greatly appreciated and has been essential in helping the University manage the situation to date.

Our discussions resulted in us agreeing to undertake a number of new initiatives which you can read about here.

Sincerely,
Professor Paul Johnson
Vice-Chancellor

Geoff makes the move to UWA

Accepting a job offer on the other side of the world and leaving your family behind is a typical story for a foreign academic who’s moved to Perth.

Professor Geoff Laurent
Centre of Cell Therapy and Regenerative Medicine

Perth is home again, but I still have a strong connection to Europe and that’s important for both my centres and wider research at UWA.

But for Professor Geoff Laurent, the approach from former UWA Vice-Chancellor Alan Robson was an opportunity for a bittersweet homecoming to his native Perth.
