UWA Forward

Vice-Chancellor's Voice

Good morning. Thanks to everyone who attended last Friday’s Open Forum.

We updated staff on a number of strategic projects, currently underway, which aim to improve the way we do our work. We’re calling this set of projects ‘Sustainable Futures’.

As in every Open Forum, we also discussed a project in particular. This month we focused on the Admissions Acceleration Project. I congratulate and thank the admissions team for their outstanding improvements to application turn-around times – from 12 days to 48 hours for simple applications and from 31 days to 3-6 days for complex. To learn more, please watch the video.

The next Open Forum will be held from 1-2pm on 16 June in the Octagon. We’ll see you there.

Frangipani Dreaming for Aboriginal Education

With a non-Indigenous father and a mother of the Kungarakan and Yanyuwa peoples of the Northern Territory, Paulina Motlop understands the benefits of having different ‘world views’.

A/Professor Motlop
School of Indigenous Studies

We all have different personalities and different learning styles and it’s important that teachers build relationships with their students to really get to know them.

And the relatively new Assistant Professor in the School of Indigenous Studies (SIS), in her role in the Faculty of Education, is hoping to help student teachers consider the particular strengths and qualities of Aboriginal children they might one day encounter in their classrooms.
