UWA Forward

Vice-Chancellor's Voice

Good morning. We had some fantastic news last week when two of our research groups secured nearly $10 million in new funding from the Australian Research Council.

The ARC Research Hub for Offshore Floating Facilities, led by Professor David White, will research improved designs and operating procedures for offshore oil and gas projects. Meanwhile the ARC Training Centre for Liquefied Natural Gas Futures, led by Professor Eric May, will enable more efficient LNG production with less environmental impact.

I congratulate David, Eric and their teams for this outstanding result. The funding reinforces the leading role of UWA researchers in contributing to the future economic development of WA and Australia. For more, watch the video or read Forward Focus below.

Sincerely,
Professor Paul Johnson

Research Funding Won

Professor David White, who holds UWA’s Shell-EMI chair in Offshore Engineering, knows a thing or two about floating oil and gas facilities. Last week, his team secured $5 million in funding from the Nation’s peak research funding body, the Australian Research Council, to establish the ARC Research Hub in Offshore Floating Facilities.

The research hub brings together 15 investigators across UWA and allows us to do new work with local and global industry partners including Woodside, Shell, Lloyds Register and Bureau Veritas.

The funding was awarded as part of the ARC’s Industrial Transformation Research Program, which aims to enable Australia’s best researchers to work collaboratively with industry to deliver important outcomes.

Watch the video about the research hub.
