UWA Forward

Vice-Chancellor's Voice

Good morning. The federal election has been won and there have been statements in recent days from both major parties about working together in the national interest. We await with interest what this means for the higher education Bill which remains stalled in the Senate.

Meanwhile at a state level, I want to update you on a Bill before the Parliament which seeks to modernise the legislation for all four WA public universities. For UWA, the Universities Legislation Amendment Bill 2016 proposes our Senate be reduced from 21 to 17 members with a mix of appointed and elected members. Reflecting modern governance structures, I believe these are positive changes.

Sincerely,
Professor Paul Johnson
Vice-Chancellor

Rock art on a roll for UWA Professor

Professor Jo McDonald, Director of the Centre for Rock Art Research and Management, didn't always want to be archaeologist; in fact it wasn't even her second choice of career.

Jo McDonald

Not only does WA have some of the best rock art in the world, the Pilbara and Western Deserts are places of such national significance in our cultural landscape

Jo McDonald

Now one of Australia's leading specialists in the study of rock art she became hooked after participating in her first "dig".
