UWA Forward

Vice-Chancellor's Voice

Good morning. It is Open Day on Sunday, one of the most important days in our calendar. From 10am-4pm we will welcome future students and the wider community to campus and showcase the best of what the University has to offer. No matter the weather it is always a great day out and I hope you can come along with friends and family and enjoy the activities.

I want to thank everyone who is giving their time to help on Sunday, it is the tremendous effort of staff and volunteers that ensures a successful day. One final briefing session will be held tomorrow at 12pm in the Uniclub Auditorium and all staff are welcome to come along to hear what is planned for Open Day 2016. I look forward to seeing some of you there.

Sincerely,
Professor Paul Johnson
Vice-Chancellor

Forward Focus

An Olympic state of mind

UWA Psychology lecturer Neil McLean is looking forward to watching our Olympic athletes compete at Rio from the comfort of his sofa.

Neal McLean
with the gold medal winning Australian men's hockey team in Athens

It's not just the Olympics but also the preparation for the Olympics where psychology plays a part. It's really preparing the athletes to cope with the pressure of competition.

For five Olympics (Barcelona, Atlanta, Athens, Beijing and London!), Neil has been part of the Australian team travelling as their psychologist, and more recently associated mainly with the men's hockey team.

Watch this video and hear Neil talk about his Olympic experience and what's changed over 24 years of competition.
