UWA Forward

Vice-Chancellor's Voice

Good morning. As you are aware, we are entering an important phase of the Renewal Project as we prepare to transition to a new academic structure on 1 January 2017. Over the past few weeks we have been undertaking the selection process for the four new Pro Vice-Chancellor & Executive Dean positions to lead the four faculties.

Following endorsement at Monday's Senate meeting I am pleased to announce the following appointments.

  • Faculty of Arts, Business & Law - Professor Matthew Tonts
  • Faculty of Engineering & Mathematical Sciences - Professor John Dell
  • Faculty of Science - Professor Tony O'Donnell
  • Faculty of Health & Medical Science - Professor Wendy Erber

I am also pleased to announce that Professor Jill Milroy has been appointed to the role of Pro Vice-Chancellor, Indigenous Education and Head of the School of Indigenous Studies.

I congratulate the successful candidates and look forward to working with them to establish our new faculties and supporting structures.

Renewal Project Update

Yesterday you would have received an invite for a staff forum to be held Tuesday 30 August from 1-2pm in the Octagon Theatre. In this forum we will discuss the proposed Service Delivery Model for UWA.

To ensure a constructive discussion a proposal for change document will be made available to all staff from 4pm today on the Renewal Project website. I encourage you to read this prior to attending the forum.

I will also be holding a series of question and answer sessions for staff in September so there will be multiple opportunities to discuss the proposal and ask questions. Additionally, all staff will be able to provide feedback within the formal consultation process following the forum.

The art of scientific measurement

Almost 50 years since his first appointment in UWA's Faculty of Education, Professor David Andrich's illustrious career shows no signs of slowing down.

Some say the model's too simple. Well, E=MC2 is simple but covers a lot of complicated things

A world leader in the field of social science measurement, you could say Professor Andrich fell into the field of education thanks of all things, to Perth's rising population.
