UWA Forward

Vice-Chancellor's Voice

Good morning. Last week I had the pleasure of attending the Innovation Basecamp breakfast, organised by UWA's Innovation Quarter. This event brought together thought leaders and drivers of innovation, commercialisation, entrepreneurship and industry engagement to discuss how we can better support innovation as a community. Some great ideas were put forth and you can read more about the event below.

Next week we will welcome a young innovator and winner of our 'Pitch the Course of the Future' competition, Matheus Saueressig, onto campus to pitch his idea for a biofabrication course to me and a panel of senior UWA staff. Matheus has spent the last week researching his idea with experts in New York and The Netherlands and I look forward to hearing the result next week.

Sincerely,
Professor Paul Johnson
Vice-Chancellor

Perfumery blog opens doors for UWA's own Scent Gent

The sense of smell is a powerful thing, a familiar scent can bring with it memories you thought were long lost. According to Rob Blandford, Alumni-Relations-Officer-by-day-and-fragrance-blogger-by-night, developing memorable perfumes is an art form.

AKA the Scent Gent

UWA has lots of links to the perfumery industry in Western Australia and beyond, in fact around 80% of sandalwood oil used in perfume comes from Western Australia...

It was on a Faculty of Engineering marketing trip to the Middle East in 2011 that Rob discovered his passion for perfumery.
