UWA Forward

Vice-Chancellor's Voice

Good morning. As you know the campus is quieter this week as our students are busy preparing for their exams. This is the culmination of the hard work they have put in to their studies and the hard work that you have put in to help them achieve their potential.

Your commitment to providing world-class teaching, research and community engagement shapes UWA graduates into tomorrow’s leaders. Our alumni go on to achieve great things and last weekend was another example with Adrian Fini OAM being named 2016 Western Australian of the Year, and Warwick Hemsley and Dr John van Brockxmeer also recognised for their outstanding contribution to the State. You can read more about this below.

Sincerely,
Professor Paul Johnson
Vice-Chancellor

Renewal Project Update

Over the past two months the six Renewal work streams have been designing the revised academic structure and service delivery model using feedback received from staff earlier in the year. The design phase, which has been informed through engagement with staff across the University, is nearing completion and I would like to thank everyone that has contributed to this work.

The work streams will soon begin finalising their proposals for review by the Extended Executive on 21 & 22 June. Preferred options will be refined and presented at an open forum on 22 July, allowing staff a further opportunity to provide feedback.

I want to assure you that no decisions about the service delivery centres, including their future staffing requirements, have yet been determined.

Sincerely,
Professor Dawn Freshwater
Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Registrar

Forward Focus

Helping protect our ocean resources

Dr. Ana Sequeira, Research Associate at UWA's Oceans Institute has always been drawn to the ocean. Originally from Portugal, Ana came to Australia in 2009 to follow her passion and complete her PhD on whale sharks.

Ana Sequeira

As a researcher there are many questions about the sea I would like to answer and living in Perth, having the Indian Ocean on my doorstep is the perfect place to do it.

Ana Sequeira

To mark World Oceans Day we talk to Ana about her important research and what we can all do to help the health of our oceans.
