UWA Forward

Vice-Chancellor's Voice

Good morning. Another successful Perth International Arts Festival came to an end on Sunday. With many events held on our Crawley campus, UWA's ongoing support of the festival both promotes our beautiful grounds as well as providing a valued contribution to the local community.

Yesterday we marked International Women's Day with a morning tea hosted by Professor Dawn Freshwater. This year's global campaign theme is 'Pledging for Parity' which asks individuals globally to pledge to take a concrete step in accelerating gender parity. I am very proud of UWA's commitment to this through steps such as our ambitious inclusion and diversity strategy and participation in the Athena SWAN Pilot and I encourage you all, as individuals, to also make a pledge for parity.

Sincerely,
Professor Paul Johnson
Vice-Chancellor

Forward Focus

Leading the way for our north

There is something pretty special about the Australian landscape; its unique and rugged beauty having inspired countless poems, songs and films. For UWA’s Professor Michael Douglas, it has inspired close to a lifetime’s dedication to understanding this 'sunburnt country'.

Professor Michael Douglas

I do think my name caused some confusion however, particularly when I left messages for people saying 'Michael Douglas wants to talk to you about making a film'

Professor Michael Douglas

Michael recently joined the School of Earth and Environment to head up the Northern Australian Environmental Resources Hub – a $24 million research program funded by the Department of the Environment and one of six hubs making up the National Environmental Science Programme.
