UWA Forward

Vice-Chancellor's Voice

Good morning. I have spoken previously about the changing higher education environment and how UWA must continue to adapt as we strive to be counted among the top 50 universities worldwide. One way we are doing this is by embracing emerging technologies like Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC), and next week UWA will begin offering its third MOOC, Psychology at Work, through Coursera. These courses build awareness of UWA internationally and provide students with a new kind of learning experience.

You would have seen last night that the Federal Government handed down its budget – the last before the next election. You can read more about what it means for us below.

Sincerely,
Professor Paul Johnson
Vice-Chancellor

Forward Focus

From Toronto to Perth, French Marxism to Tolkien

When Associate Professor Robert Stuart first joined UWA, Perth appeared a sleepy country town, quiet and isolated. It was 1975 and the city certainly didn't have the hustle and bustle of Toronto where he had been working previously.

Professor Robert Stuart

In the unit we look at the ways in which stories such as 'Star Wars' and 'Lord of the Rings' have combined cultural creativity and historical memory

Professor Robert Stuart

An avid science fiction and fantasy reader, Professor Stuart has been able to combine this passion with his interest in history in the most unlikely but fulfilling way at UWA.

Read more about Professor Stuart's time at UWA and his interesting Tolkien-based research and May the 4th be with you.
